Tried contacting IRS for clarification but they will only discuss it on the phone - I am only interested in official letter I was in a similar situation before when I refused to fill out a Census Bureau questionarie - answered the question about how many people live in the household and skipped the other 50 or so questions, citing article in the Constitution that bans them from asking any questions except for the one that I answered.
They never replied to my letter. I am not sure why you brought up tax evasion. Is there a good reason to leave off your SSN? The SSN system, although not originally designed as such, is our only national identification system.
So when do I still have to use my SSN? Does it matter? Open a bank account, give them the EIN? Adsense et al. Now what about places like Google?
Do I bother to change what they have now by giving them my EIN? And what about taxes? I assume I file with my SSN? A bank may still require your SSN as the principal signer on the account, but the account itself would be under the business name and EIN.
There is also no requirement to pay taxes, but everyone still does it. There are many instances where people have gone to prison for not paying taxes, or breaking other federal laws.
I have heard a lot of the arguments regarding the legalities of taxation but when the rubber meets the road, you will go to jail for not paying your federal taxes. In the US, there is civil law tort and criminal law. Both types of law are legislated by Congress.
Congress does not, however, list every single rule and regulation required to enforce these laws. I changed the country in early October and the earnings have started generating in my new profile since then. That means I could start receiving payments in the US from November. As soon as this happened, Google Adsense put a hold on the monthly payments and required me to update the payment method and tax information.
While adding a bank account to the Adsense account was easy and could be changed instantly, I had some trouble with the tax info. When entering info for the new W-9 form, make sure the name and permanent residence address match the legal name and address in your Payments Profile. I did some research and many people had the same issue and they had to wait even weeks to resolve it. That terrified me because the majority of my earnings come from Adsense.
