So I followed your article perfectly. Your statement that for home cooking exact measurements are probably less important than judging texture and feel of the dough is right on.
After I followed some recipes and got the idea, I practiced until I knew what the dough should look like and feel like, and that is how I do it now. I really like your website. I totally agree with you. On the other hand, I do prefer to use scale whenever I bake a cake or pastry. You made a great point here, that the description of the texture of the dough matters a lot.
Happy New Year and have a great weekend! Hi mam Charlie Your post is really helpful. But can u please tell the measurement of sugar also. I bought your recommended scale a few years ago and it has been so useful. I have this taped inside my cupboard doors so I can quickly convert ingredient weights. If something is given in grams, you convert it to ounces or which ever weight measurement you use and use scales to measure it.
I wonder if that is why so many people find it hard to convert foreign recipes correctly. Paul I asked Alexa and she says she have no idea. Thank you for this!
Your table is amazing. I live in Europe, where we use grams and milliliters. I liked the recipes from Pinterest which are mostly from America. I write via translations, so sorry for any mistakes. My recently viewed recipes. Most experts agree that dry ingredients like flour should be measured by weight rather than volume, especially in baking. The reason for this is that flours vary slightly in density, so a volume measurement will likely yield an incorrect amount of ingredient. Additionally, the amount that the flour is packed or compressed in the cup or tablespoon will alter the amount of ingredient being added.
For these reasons, a food scale is the preferred way to measure flour when cooking, rather than a cup or tablespoon. Grams and cups are both units used to measure flour. Keep reading to learn more about each unit of measure. One gram of flour is equal to roughly 0. A gram is a measure of flour weight.
